The real optimal setup isn't static: it shifts with spring/clutch age and heat-cycle count (a clutch with only ~5 sessions on it behaves differently than one with ~20), drum age, gear ratio, axle speed, track type, and driver weight/class.

Concrete example: for a 375 (driver/kart weight class) running a 3.38 gear ratio on a fast track, when the springs and clutch are brand new/fresh (low session count, no heat cycles yet), 4 white springs with no weights is often the optimal setup — especially when the driver isn't spending much time actually slipping / “on the clutch,” since direct engagement matters more than low-speed feathering in that scenario.
