SmartyCam Corsa 4 - Discontinued the Sport 4... BUMMER!
Why AiM Dropped the SmartyCam Sport 4 and Is Going All-In on the New SmartyCam Corsa 4
By the time you read this the new SmartyCam 4 Corsa is probably already hitting US shores.. and if you’ve been following the preorder drama you might have noticed something interesting.
AiM quietly pulled the plug on the SmartyCam Sport 4.. or at least stopped pushing it hard. Instead they’re putting all their marketing muscle behind the SmartyCam Corsa 4.
Here’s my best guess on why they did it.. and why it actually makes a ton of sense for kart racers like us.
First off.. the two cameras ended up being way too close in the lineup.
The Sport 4 was basically a refreshed SmartyCam 3 Sport.. same compact size that fits perfectly in a kart.. same 30 fps.. same global shutter sensor that’s been working great for years. It was a safe.. reliable evolution. Nothing wrong with it.. but it wasn’t a big leap forward.
The Corsa 4 on the other hand is a serious jump. It has the brand new Sony 12 MP CMOS sensor with the dedicated Sony LSI stabilizer.. full 1080p at up to 60 fps.. low-distortion 85° lens.. USB-C.. Wi-Fi.. Bluetooth.. dual microphones.. and way better low-light performance. It still keeps that compact body that works awesome in karts but now gives you sharper footage.. smoother video.. and way more modern features.
Basically AiM looked at the two models side by side and realized.. why sell two cameras that are this similar when one of them is clearly better in almost every way? Streamlining the lineup just makes sense. Less confusion for customers.. easier inventory for dealers.. and they can focus on making the Corsa 4 the best it can be.
Here’s a quick head-to-head between the old SmartyCam Sport 3 (the one most of us have been running) and the new Corsa 4:
- Sensor — Sport 3: 2 MP global shutter → Corsa 4: 12 MP Sony CMOS with LSI stabilizer
- Frame Rate — Sport 3: 30 fps → Corsa 4: 30 or 60 fps
- Lens — Sport 3: standard low-distortion → Corsa 4: new low-distortion 85° with sapphire glass
- Connectivity — Sport 3: older binder connectors → Corsa 4: USB-C + Wi-Fi + Bluetooth
- Audio — Sport 3: single internal mic → Corsa 4: dual microphones
- Memory — Sport 3: microSD → Corsa 4: full-size SD + USB-C card support up to 2 TB
- Size/Weight — Both are super compact and kart-friendly.. but Corsa 4 feels more premium
The Corsa 4 still gives you everything we love about AiM cameras.. automatic track selection.. auto start/stop recording.. perfect data overlays in Race Studio 3.. and full integration with your MyChron. But now the video quality is in a whole different league.
If you’ve been holding off on a new camera.. this is the one to get. The SmartyCam 4 Corsa is the future.. and it’s here right now.

Pro tip for the best setup: Pair it with the Swift Karting 5000mAh 3S LiPo Battery & Power Cable Kit. It gives you 5–8 hours of continuous recording and completely eliminates back-charging issues between the camera and your MyChron.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve already pre-ordered one.. or if you’re still rocking an older Sport model and want to know if it’s worth upgrading. Happy to help you decide.
Stay fast out there..
