Hilliard Kart Clutches

Hilliard is a trusted manufacturer of industrial clutches renowned for Extreme Duty centrifugal clutches like Inferno, Blaze, Flame, Fury, Fire, and more. Ideal for go-kart racing, these clutches ensure reliable power transfer, especially with LO206 engines.

Clutch Models & Diagrams

Hilliard centrifugal clutches engage when weighted shoes swing outward against the drum as RPM rises, and each model targets a different budget and driving style. Inferno and Flame use a needle-bearing driver for lower friction and are the most common choice for competitive LO206 racing, Blaze and Blizzard use a bronze-bushing driver at a lower price point, and Fury and Fire use a fiber-lined shoe for a softer, more progressive engagement. Match the part numbers (PN) in the diagrams below to your clutch model before ordering replacement parts.

Installation & Engagement Guides

Engagement RPM is set by the spring rate and shoe weight installed in the clutch, not by the clutch model alone. Use the engagement charts below to find a spring-and-weight combination that matches your engine's powerband and your track's layout — tighter tracks generally call for a lower engagement point, faster tracks for a higher one. Always follow the installation guide for your specific model first, since incorrect assembly is the most common cause of premature shoe wear.

Clutch Components & Parts

Clutch shoes, springs, and needle bearings are wear items and are worth inspecting every season. Chattering on launch or a delayed, mushy engagement is usually a sign the shoes or springs need replacing. Every part below is labeled with its Hilliard part number (PN) so you can match a worn component to the correct replacement instead of guessing from a photo.

Tuning Springs for Hilliard Clutches

Hilliard springs are color-coded by rate: a stiffer spring raises engagement RPM, a softer spring lowers it. Pairing the right spring with the right shoe weight is how racers fine-tune off-the-line acceleration against top-end pull. Check the engagement chart for your clutch model above before swapping spring rates so you stay within Hilliard's tested combinations.
