This race-ready pre-drilled lead weight comes ready to bolt on. Each weight includes one nut / bolt / washer kit so you can mount it without hunting for hardware that actually fits.

Pick the 2 lb or 5 lb option at checkout. The 2 lb weight comes plus or minus 0.2 lb. The 5 lb weight comes plus or minus 0.5 lb. Washers in the kit are described as legal, but always check your series rules for ballast, mounting, and any marking requirements.

Need a spare or a longer bolt for a stacked install? Grab extra hardware here:

• 70mm Drilled Shank Flat Head Cap Screw .. $2. Drilled shank so you can safety wire it.
• Kartech KM625B 8mm / 5/16" Conical Seat Washer .. $5 each. Use these when you mount weight to a fiberglass or carbon seat so the flat-head bolt sits flush and does not pull through the shell.

Each lead weight already includes one nut / bolt / washer kit. Order extra bolts and conical washers only if you are stacking weights, replacing worn hardware, or mounting through a thicker seat and bracket stack.

Weight brackets for chassis ballast

Weight brackets ($5 to $16) are the clamps used to bolt ballast to a kart chassis so the complete package can meet a class minimum weight. More important, get the weight moved to the right areas for cross weight and four-corner balance. We carry short and long brackets for common round-tube sizes:

• 1 1/8 in .. 29 mm. For 28 mm tubing, wrap a layer of grip paper around the tube before mounting the bracket.
• 1 1/4 in .. 32 mm

Use the seat for driver-side ballast. Use a rail bracket when the weight needs to live on the chassis tube instead of the seat shell.

Seat padding

If the weight sits against the seat, add padding so the lead does not chew the shell or the driver. Shop kart seat upholstery, adhesive, and padding for inside-the-seat foam and cover material.

How to install it so it stays put

A loose weight can crack a seat, strip hardware, or come off on track. Sit the weight flat against the seat or bracket. Use the included kit first. Add a conical washer ($5) on the seat side when you are going through fiberglass or carbon. Use a 70mm drilled-shank flat head cap screw ($2) if the included bolt is too short for a stacked mount.

Tighten until it is locked down, not until you crush the seat. Recheck after the first session. Recheck again anytime you change seat position or add more ballast.

Weight location changes how the kart turns. Move one piece at a time, write it down, and stay inside your class rules.

Does each weight include hardware?
Yes. Each lead weight comes with one nut / bolt / washer kit.

Do I still need extra bolts?
Only if you stack weights, replace worn hardware, or need a longer bolt. Start with the 70mm drilled shank FHCS ($2) and conical washers ($5).

Can I bolt this to the chassis instead of the seat?
Yes. Use a matching tube clamp from the weight bracket collection ($5 to $16). Match the bracket to your rail: 3/4 in (19 mm), 1 in (25 mm), 1 1/8 in (29 mm), or 1 1/4 in (32 mm).

How close is the actual weight?
2 lb is plus or minus 0.2 lb. 5 lb is plus or minus 0.5 lb.

Marginal Gains Tip

Don't forget to balance your tires. Chassis ballast gets you to class weight. Wheel balance keeps the kart from hopping and chewing the fronts. Use the Self-Adhesive Wheel Weight Kit ($9) and stick the weights on the inside of the rim after you find the heavy spot.
