Recommended Sensors to Unlock Advanced MyChron 6 Data (Optional)

The MyChron 6 platform becomes dramatically more powerful when additional sensors are added. These sensors are valuable for both advanced drivers and newer drivers, allowing performance issues to be identified even when driver feedback is limited. You can achieve strong results using the MyChron 6 alone, but these sensors provide the next level of insight when you are ready to dig deeper.

Front Wheel MPH Sensor (Highly Recommended)

Front Wheel MPH Sensor for MyChron 6

The front wheel speed sensor is one of the most valuable upgrades you can add to a MyChron 6. It allows true vehicle speed measurement independent of engine RPM, making it possible to diagnose kart performance even without driver input.

What this sensor allows you to analyze:

  • True entry, mid-corner, and exit speed
  • Rolling speed loss through corners
  • Acceleration efficiency vs RPM
  • Corner exit recovery rate
  • Gear ratio effectiveness using RPM vs speed
  • Brake drag and coast-down loss

This sensor alone is often enough to uncover the next few tenths. It excels for experienced drivers chasing fine margins and for newer drivers where seat feedback is inconsistent.

Infrared Tire Temperature Sensor Expansion

Infrared Tire Temperature Sensor Kit

Infrared tire temperature sensors add visibility into tire loading and balance. Instead of guessing what the kart is doing, you can see how each tire is being used throughout the lap.

Data and analysis made possible:

  • Inside vs outside tire temperature balance
  • Corner-specific tire loading trends
  • Chassis balance evaluation
  • Driving style impact on tire heat
  • Tire performance degradation trends

Infrared Tire Temperature Mounting Kit (Required)

Infrared Tire Temperature Sensor Mounting Kit

This bracket kit is required to correctly position the infrared sensors. Proper mounting ensures accurate, repeatable temperature readings that can be trusted for tuning decisions.

When combined with speed, RPM, GPS, and accelerometer data, these sensors enable advanced Race Studio 3 formulas such as:

  • RPM histogram–based gear optimization
  • Speed vs RPM efficiency zones
  • Corner entry and exit speed deltas
  • Acceleration and deceleration efficiency
  • Tire temperature change rate vs speed

These tools turn data into clear answers, whether you are refining a competitive setup or learning how the kart responds under different conditions.

Which MyChron 6 T2 Should You Order? (TR/TC vs “Choose Temp Leads”)

If you want the most common karting setup with the least chance of ordering the wrong sensor combination, the MC6T2 (TR/TC) option is usually the right choice. THIS ONE, YOUR ON THE RIGHT PAGE IF YOU HAVE a LO206, or 2 stroke KA100, Micro, Mini.

Why order the TR/TC version instead of the “Choose Temp Leads” version?

  • Pre-matched and pre-configured for one TR input (Water Temp or CHT) and one TC input (EGT), which is what most racers run.
  • Reduces mistakes, no guessing, no accidentally selecting two of the same sensor type.
  • The typical Water or CHT plus EGT combination, the setup most people want when buying a dual temperature MyChron.
  • Faster ordering, choose your leads and you are ready to install.

MC6T2 (TR/TC) Details

Only available in a TR/TC patch cable configuration.

This version is pre-configured as a mixed-input unit with one TR channel and one TC channel. It is built this way to ensure proper compatibility and to prevent ordering errors. The correct TR/TC patch cable is included.

How do I know which EGT sensor I need for my exhaust?

EGT sensor selection depends on how your exhaust pipe is built and how detailed you want the data to be. All EGT sensors connect to the MyChron 6 using a TC (thermocouple) patch cable, which is already included with this MyChron 6 T2 package.

  • 5mm Thread EGT Sensor: Used when the exhaust has a small drilled and tapped 5mm hole. Common on LO206 and similar engines.
  • T-12 Style EGT Sensor (Open Tip): Used with exhausts that have a welded bung or large external nut. This open-tip sensor reacts faster and is recommended for advanced data analysis. An extension cable is required.
  • 90 Degree Big Nut Closed Tip EGT Sensor: Also installs into a welded bung, but uses a shielded tip for smoother readings and added durability.

Quick tip: If your exhaust has a welded bung and you want the most detailed EGT data for gear ratio optimization and lap comparison, the T-12 open tip sensor is the recommended choice. The required TC patch cable is already included with this package.
